About Moonta
Moonta is located 165km from Adelaide on the west coast of York Peninsula and together with Wallaroo and Kadina, forms the famous "Copper Triangle".

Moonta's history is based on copper mining where in the late 1800's, the population peaked at around 12,000. Many of the early immigrants, miners, came from Cornwall, which is the source of the areas alternate title of "Little Cornwall". Today many of the mines heritage buildings and historic ruins reflect the towns past days, and the Moonta Mines Museum showcases many artifacts and photo's from this time.

Moonta Bay has in recent times come to be a popular holiday retreat, with access to good fishing and beaches, the best of which lie a short distance south of Moonta Bay at Port Hughes.

You can't go to Moonta without sampling a famous Cornish pastie and visiting the "Old Sweet Shop" directly opposite the Moonta Mines museum.
