This magnificent white marble mausoleum was commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1632 in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died during childbirth. Completed in 1653, the Taj Mahal stands as a testament to the emperor's profound love and grief.
Architecturally, the Taj Mahal is a masterpiece of Mughal architecture, blending elements of Islamic, Persian, Ottoman, and Indian styles. The central structure features a large, bulbous dome and is flanked by four minarets, each over 40 meters tall.
