Overview
Parwana Afghan Kitchen is more than just a restaurant — it’s a heartfelt tribute to family, tradition, and the rich culinary culture of Afghanistan. Located on Henley Beach Road in Torrensville, this warm and inviting eatery has become a standout in Adelaide’s multicultural dining scene since opening in 2009.
Founded by Zahra and Farida Ayubi and run with the help of their children, Parwana shares the family’s migration story through food — offering an authentic menu drawn from generations of Afghan home cooking. The dishes are packed with vibrant spice, layered textures, and a generosity of spirit that makes every meal feel like a celebration.
Start with the beloved mantu — delicate steamed dumplings filled with spiced lamb or vegetables and topped with yoghurt and lentils. Follow it up with fragrant mains like borani banjan (eggplant in tomato and yoghurt), palaw rice infused with saffron and sweet carrot, or tender lamb slow-cooked in spice blends that have been passed down through the family. Everything is cooked with care, made from scratch, and designed to be shared.
Parwana’s interior is just as colourful as its cuisine, with floral fabrics, tiled walls, and warm lighting that create an atmosphere of comfort and culture. The service is heartfelt and personal, reflecting the restaurant’s mission to offer more than just a meal — but a meaningful experience of Afghan hospitality.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a devoted regular, Parwana Afghan Kitchen continues to be one of Adelaide’s most authentic, soulful, and flavour-rich dining destinations.
