Although it most well-known for its dining and exciting café scene along Lygon Street, Carlton still boasts a diverse and alive nightlife scene with a broad range of hotel, pubs, bars and clubs. The proximity of the Melbourne University to the area plays a significant role in much of the nightlife and you will find many pubs and bars being populated by large student populations. There are also a number of venues that cater for different audiences and attract a different cliental.
Lygon Street is the home to many drinking houses including iconic venues jimmy Watson’s wine bar and the Curtin Hotel which is a great Melbourne live music venue. A host of other venues are disbursed around the perimeter of the University of Melbourne, including the Prince Alfred Hotel and the Clyde Hotel.
