Overview
The Fumoir is one of London’s most exclusive cocktail bars — a stylish hideaway nestled within the legendary Claridge’s Hotel in Mayfair. Originally opened in 1929, it was restored by renowned designer Thierry Despont, who preserved its cinematic charm while enhancing its luxury appeal.
Step through the mirrored door and you’re transported to a world of Gatsby-era elegance. The intimate space features deep mahogany panelling, smoky Lalique glasswork, and vintage black-and-white photography that tells stories from the bar’s glamorous past. The dim lighting and plush seating create a seductive, almost secretive mood — ideal for hushed conversations, romantic drinks, or a solo martini in style.
The drinks list is classic with a twist. The Fumoir Negroni, a house signature, blends Hepple Gin, Campari, Carpano Antica Formula, coffee, and chamomile for a smoky, aromatic take on the original. Other highlights include twists on the Old Fashioned, Manhattan, and an excellent Espresso Martini using small-batch spirits and premium ingredients. Each drink is served in bespoke Lalique crystal, adding a tactile element of luxury.
Light bar snacks are available, though the focus is on the drinks and atmosphere. There is no live music, no reservations, and no photography — all part of its quiet, exclusive charm. While open to the public, priority is often given to Claridge’s guests.
Whether you’re pre-dinner, post-theatre, or just craving a sophisticated escape, The Fumoir is a sanctuary of timeless cocktail culture.
