About Travel In New York
New York is a state of dramatic contrasts and unexpected surprises. It is located in the north east of the United States but only has a very small coastal region. This is in the very southernmost part of the state around New York City and Long Island. New York State stretches from New York City northwards to the Canadian border where you will find the city of Buffalo and Niagara Falls. The capital of New York State is, surprisingly not New York City, but Albany which is located in the central eastern part of the State in the Capital-Saratoga region.
New York can be divided into upstate and downstate and the 2 divisions contrast significantly. Downstate includes New York City and is part of the urban megalopolis that has spawned over many years and includes a significant percentage of the states population. Upstate, which is anything in the remaining majority of the state is a stark contrast with spectacular scenery and state parks. The area is rich in culture and history with many charming small cities, towns and communities as well as providing plenty of produce with many farms and wineries.
